Privacy policy
Pitmates is an app for Formula 1 fans, and this policy also covers the pitmates.app website. We keep as little about you as we can: no ads, no tracking across apps or websites, no analytics, and we never sell data.
Who we are
Pitmates is a fan project based in Bulgaria and is the controller of the data described here. Contact: support@pitmates.app.
What we keep and why
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| A random account ID created when you make a profile. No password, no phone number. | To keep your profile and content together. |
| Your username, and if you add them: favourite team, country and profile photo. | Shown to other fans next to what you post. |
| Your email address, only if you choose to save your account with one. | To send you a sign-in code so you can get back in on a new phone. Never used for marketing. |
| What you post: posts, photos, comments, chat messages, likes, poll votes, predictions, quiz answers, leagues you join, queue reports at the track. | That is the app: other fans see it, and scores and rankings are worked out from it. |
| Reports you file and fans you block. | To moderate the community and hide blocked fans from you. |
| Track stamps you collected. | For your Paddock Passport. |
| Notifications in the app (likes, comments, scores). | To show you what happened while you were away. |
The legal basis is performing the service you asked for when you created a profile (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)), and our legitimate interest in keeping the community safe (Art. 6(1)(f)) for moderation and reports.
Waitlist on this website
If you join the waitlist, we keep your email address and the time you agreed, only to email you when Pitmates is ready to try. We don't send newsletters or ads and don't share the address. The legal basis is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)); you can withdraw it any time by writing to support@pitmates.app, and we delete the address. We delete the whole list once the app is publicly available.
Location
Your location is only used when you open the track map or tap "Check in at the track". The map uses it on your phone only. A check-in sends your position once to confirm you are at the circuit; we store the stamp, not your position. Pins you save on the map stay on your phone.
Photos
Before a photo becomes visible, it is sent to the OpenAI moderation service to check for nudity, violence and similar content. OpenAI does not use these images to train its models. Photos that fail the check are deleted.
Where your data lives
- Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in), hosted in the EU (Ireland).
- OpenAI (USA) for the photo check described above, covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Cloudflare for this website and for forwarding email sent to support@pitmates.app.
Race schedules and results come from public sources (Jolpica-F1, sportstimes/f1) and contain no personal data.
Reminders and notifications
Session reminders are scheduled on your phone and work without sending anything to us.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. Content removed for breaking the rules is deleted. Banned accounts are kept so the ban stays in place.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to You → Delete account. This permanently deletes your profile, posts, photos, comments, likes, predictions, quiz answers, leagues you started and everything else linked to your account. Copies may remain in routine backups for a short time before they are overwritten. You can also email us to ask for deletion.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict its use, and take it with you. Write to support@pitmates.app. You can also complain to the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection (cpdp.bg) or the authority in your country.
Children
Pitmates is not meant for children under 14. If you believe a child under 14 has made an account, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
